HeadsUpGuys

Best for: Men newly grappling with depression or suicidal thoughts, and the friends or family trying to help one.

What is HeadsUpGuys?

HeadsUpGuys is a Vancouver nonprofit built specifically for men, with suicide prevention as the actual point, not a marketing tagline. The site offers a depression self-check, more than 100 recovery stories from men describing what actually helped them, self-guided courses, and an international therapist directory for finding someone to talk to. It's free, funded entirely by donations, and was until recently run out of the University of British Columbia before spinning off as its own nonprofit. The limitation: HeadsUpGuys doesn't treat you. It screens, educates, and hands you off — to a therapist you still pay separately, or a crisis line if things are urgent. A solid front door, not a full solution.
